UNTF project’s closing workshop
On September 15, Hagar Vietnam held the closing workshop of the Hagar project funded by the UN Trust Fund. The project is called “Building capacity of duty bearers and beneficiaries to improve access to services for women and children, survivors of intimate partner violence and non-partner sexual violence and change community’s attitude and behaviour towards violence against women.” 90 representatives from the Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs, Women’s Union and concerned departments from Yen Bai and Nghe An province attended.
Vice Chairman of Department of Gender Equality of the Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Loan, highly valued the project outcomes and initiatives launched at localities. She was also impressed by demonstrative statistics in the project impact report which showed significant changes of survivors and perpetrators of violence in 2 project sites.
The project was co-implemented from 2019-2022 by Hagar Vietnam and the Women’s Union of Nghe An and Yen Bai. Over 3 years, the number of women and children experiencing at least one form of gender-based violence saw a twofold decrease from 57.6% to 23%. Additionally, approximately 97% of survivors know where and how to seek help for domestic violence. Overall, the project supported 900 survivors, enhanced capacity for 80 local officials and increased knowledge and awareness of domestic violence for 200 local residents.
Hagar Vietnam’s Executive Director, Ms. Giang Thi Thuy, emphasised Hagar’s commitment to improve access to support services for women and children experiencing violence. Hagar believes that with the cooperation of the Women’s Union and relevant departments, the project outcomes will be sustained by local partners– significantly devoted to the recovery and healing journey of survivors.
