Hagar Vietnam celebrates Tet with survivors

Lunar New Year is the most important celebration for Vietnamese people. Vietnamese people have been celebrating this occasion for thousands of years and have made it an essential part of the Vietnamese tradition. Lunar New Year’s Eve is not only a special holiday but also a chance for family gatherings and intimate get-togethers.

To Hagar Vienam, this special occasion carries many meanings for our clients, who have experienced a lot of challenges in the past year. Since this time is for reunion, new hope, and love, we wish that all our clients could enjoy a warm and full Tet holiday. Therefore, Hagar Vietnam provided a small gift as our blessing for the New Year to our clients. This gift includes essential beverages for them to prepare Tet traditional food.

“In the past year, a lot has happened to me. However, because of Hagar’s company, I find hope again. It is my first Tet holiday being with my family after those years of going abroad. With the gift of Hagar, this Tet is more meaningful to us.” Ms. Lua—a survivor of human trafficking.

Witnessing their happy smile and glowing face, we are encouraged to pursue our mission to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to restore a broken life.

Hagar Vietnam presents on TIC on VTC News

In recent years, there has been a growing concern for mental health care among the Vietnamese community, especially among the young generation. Recognised as a specialist agency in Trauma-informed Care, Hagar Vietnam was invited by the VTC Digital Television Network (VTC Digital Television/Vietnam Digital Television Network). It is the Vietnamese television network currently owned by Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) to provide professional knowledge on their Tet theme talk show.

This talk show was about “Be true yourself on social media” which discussed how to take care of our mental health in the right way. Our TIC Advisor, Ms. To Thi Hanh, was the guest speaker on the talk show to help the audience have an adequate understanding of the mental issue. Within 15 minutes duration, Ms. Hanh shared her emotions. A trauma-informed care approach was mentioned in the show as a key solution for the community to deal with modern pressure. TIC Advisor also presented some of our self-care tools in TIC to use when people are overwhelmed by tension.

Meeting with J/TIP Program & US Embassy– Vietnam

In January, the US Embassy organised a private meeting for limited IO/NGO partners in Hanoi to meet the J/TIP official. The exclusive event was held in the Embassy’s residence with the participation of a larger J/TIP delegation and representatives from Hagar, World Vision, and Blue Dragon to discuss the TIP landscape in Vietnam, trends, and challenges.

On behalf of J/TIP, Jamie Sutter, who is with J/TIP’s Office of International Programmes, visited Hanoi to meet with JITP’s current grantee to learn more about Human Trafficking programming. Meeting with the JTIP Programming Officer, there were Hagar Vietnam’s Country Director, Ms. Giang Thi Thu Thuy, and Programme Manager, Ms. Chu Thanh Hoa. This was an opportunity for Hagar Vietnam to present our impacts on the community through the “COVID-19 Victim of Human Trafficking are resilient” project funded by JTIP. Moreover, this meeting also opened future partnerships between Hagar International and J/TIP for potential areas of engagement and funding.
