In July, Hagar Vietnam organized an internal Trauma Informed Care workshop for staff and two partner agencies; Center for Women and Development, the national Women’s Union development agency and the Institute for Development & Community Health.

Run by Hagar Vietnam’s resident Psychologist Nhung, participants were provided the definition of Complex Trauma and its effects on a person’s life. During the 2 hour session, attendees had the chance to discuss real case studies to understand key principles when supporting survivors experiencing complex trauma.

In this session, Hagar also shared our learned lessons and case work skills with our two partner agencies, exchanging knowledge and support. A social worker from the Center for Women and Development expressed:

“The learning session was really useful to me. The provided knowledge helps me understand more about my clients’ trauma. Therefore, I would have a better supporting to them by applying the TIC approach. We hope that Hagar will have more learning forum like this for like-minded agencies.”

Furthermore Hagar was also able to provide this workshop with another partner agency Oxfam for the first time. An Oxfam representative had also expressed:

“We are deeply impressed with the contents and Hagar’s expertise, and the way Nhung and Hoa conducted the learning and handled technical questions from our staff. We’ve included our quick survey result here as the testimony of how highly staff thinks about the learning events.”

With this positive feedback, Oxfam has invited Hagar to do a follow-up training to provide more in-depth knowledge about Trauma-Informed Care.

Hagar pursues the highest degree of care and protection for each of its clients. To protect the identity of our clients, names have been changed and images do not necessarily represent the individual profiled.
