Emergency Response Phase (ERP) 2– Afghanistan
Below are highlights for ERP2 in Afghanistan, running until 31 December 2022.
Child Friendly Spaces (Educational Centers)
- Established an educational program for students’ parents, providing basic information on child rights, protection and child trafficking.
- Monthly visits to all classes, including a field visit from Hagar International’s CEO, Andrew Catford.
Primary Health Care:
- Hagar Mobile Health Team provided health services for an average of 90 patients daily.
- 1966 patients were referred to Hagar’s health team – 632 of which were children and women with malnutrition.
- Common illnesses among beneficiaries include Cold, Diarrhoea, PID, micronutrients, Fever, Cough, Malnutrition, Mental health, disability, stomach diseases, etc.
Restoring lives through livelihoods updates
- Regular follow-up of project activities and provision of support to field staff and beneficiaries. Provision of monthly cash payments to all RLL beneficiaries.
- Provided fabric and materials for Mamozai, PD2, and Chahar Asiab tailoring cooperatives.
- 10 small businesses assessments have been finalized and ready to take place.
- New contracts were signed between Atlas carpet weaving factory and the 127 cash-for-work beneficiaries. The factory will provide a monthly payment for a year and Hagar Afghanistan will observe the process. Conducted business development training in two cooperatives.
Hagar International’s Global CEO, Andrew Catford recently visited our Afghanistan Program Office where he interacted with some of the 130 women currently benefitting from our ‘Restore Lives Through Livelihood’ initiative.
Part of the initiative is Hagar’s ‘Cash for Work’ programme that secured work for these women at a carpet weaving factory in Dashe Barchi, Kabul in May this year. The women have commenced work and will be offered a permanent job after 6 months of paid training, enabling them to earn an income and support their families.

Forgotten No More (FNM) Project Update
- The FNM Shelter is providing standard protection and a comprehensive range of services including safe accommodation, food, medical, legal, education, recreational, vocational training and case management for 20 children.
- After several mediation sessions and coordination with MoLSA, one client was safely re-integrated with his family.
- Held the first online Provincial Child Protection Action Network (CPAN), and Afghanistan Case Management Group meeting on Oct 5th and had a discussion on the current referral system, family tracing in the provinces and capacity development of CPAN members.
- Conducted 4 case management meetings for 11 residential clients to improve the provision of services.
- Conducted 56 sessions including 53 systematic and individual sessions for all residential and reintegrated clients, 3 family sessions and 3 group sessions.
- Conducted 4 group legal awareness sessions, two family legal awareness and 7 individual legal counselling for FNM residential clients to increase their awareness about child rights and child protection.
