On May 4th the US Ambassador invited Hagar, Blue Dragon, World Vision and Pacific Links to a meeting to discuss the human trafficking situation in Vietnam. At the meeting, all participants spoke about the limited capacity and different understanding and application of human trafficking laws and policies among Social Protection and Law Enforcement officers in Vietnam. They also discussed perpetrators’ trends, including the use of online application such as Zalo to trick teenagers into being sold to China as well as gender based violence, the root cause of human trafficking in ethnic minority groups. The Ambassador said the meeting was very useful as the US Embassy is working together with government of Vietnam to combat human trafficking. Additionally, the Ambassador showed interest in Hagar’s human trafficking project site and said he would visit it in the coming months.
