Emergency Response Phase 2– Afghanistan

The Emergency Response Plan 2 in Afghanistan which runs until 31 December 2022 is well underway with the following highlights:

Child Friendly Spaces (Educational Centers)

  • Students can now read and write in their language and are passionate about attending classes
  • Teachers received ID cards and students received monthly stationery

Primary Health Care

Paktika Province Hagar Afghanistan’s health clinic provides healthcare for vulnerable people of the Sar-e-Hawza district and our Mobile Health Team provides healthcare for residents of the Sar-e-Rawza district, including Outdoor Patients (OPD). The Mobile Health Team’s services include antenatal care (ANC), postnatal are (PNC), delivery, and nutrition screening for destitute families and children residing far from the clinic.

In August:

  • 2,484 patients were seen by Hagar Afghanistan’s healthcare team, including 1,930 children below 5 years of age and 550 men and women.
  • We coordinated with UNICEF to provide malnutrition packages for people in our target areas.
  • The Hagar healthcare team encountered hundreds of malnutrition cases.

Restoring lives through livelihoods update

  • Hagar Afghanistan has started assessments and field visits to Mamozai tailoring training center for 30 new beneficiaries.
  • In the July update we mentioned the establishment of two tailoring cooperatives. The cooperatives are in Chahar Asiab and Qulab Chakan of Kabul and are helping 100 vulnerable households. 100 sewing machines, fabric and supplies have been provided.
  • In the July update we also mentioned the routine visit to our cash for work programme in Dashte Barchi. We can confirm payments were distributed to
    all 127 beneficiaries during this follow-up.

Forgotten No More (FNM) Project Update

  • 16 clients are receiving medical, legal, educational, recreational, psychosocial and vocational support at the FNM shelter.
  • 98 systematic and individual psychosocial counseling sessions were provided.
  • All clients received vocational training in tailoring, cutting and sewing machine repairs.
  • Hagar Afghanistan met with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to discuss clients’ court cases.
  • All clients were trained to seek medical advice for COVID symptoms and the center is following all safety protocols for the prevention of COVID-1
